Online DragonFate Guide

Dragon's Kiss, book #2 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeI’ve started to compile a world guide for DragonFate here on the website. You’ll find the first page at the bottom of the DragonFate menu: it’s called DragonFate Characters.

Right now, it lists the Pyr who appear in the DragonFate series – both those who are featured and those who have cameo roles. I’ll augment it with the Others and at least one destined mate when Dragon’s Kiss is finalized, then keep building it as we go.

If you have any suggestions for what you think should be listed, any information that’s missing which you think should be there, or how it might be better organized as it becomes more detailed, please let me know!

Last weekend, I attended the Romance Author Mastermind conference in Houston, hosted by Skye Warren. It was a terrific conference, and like all the best ones, it sent me home with a huge list of ideas.

Here be Dragons, the Dragonfire Companion and guide to the paranormal romance series by Deborah CookeOne of the things I realized that I’m under-utilizing – or maybe not using well at all! – is GoodReads. I think of it as a reader environment, where readers can talk about books with other readers. This is all good, but there are still things I can do there.

About once a year, I go into GR and update or correct the information about my books – the description, the ISBN’s and the series information, typically – but that has been the extend of my engagement in recent years. I’ve been lucky to have readers add my books for me there, but now I’m going to be more pro-active.

You can follow me at Goodreads. My Deborah Cooke profile is right here.

You can also add my upcoming books to your To Read Shelf. The cool thing is that when you do this, GR sends you a notification when the book is published.

Here’s Dragon’s Kiss, coming December 10.Dragon's Kiss, book two of the DragonFate novels, a series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke

Here’s the Dragonfire Companion, coming December 31.

Here’s Dragon’s Heart, coming May 26.

Here’s Dragon’s Mate, coming October 27.

I see that I’m due to sort out some series details again – this happens because Amazon doesn’t allow decimals in their numbering, or prequels numbered 0. The other portals and GR do, but now Amazon feeds metadata to GR. I’ll dig in over the holidays.

Changed Publication Date

Dragon's Kiss, book #2 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeIf you’ve pre-ordered Dragon’s Kiss, you might have received a notification that the publication date has been moved to December 10.

I know that many of you will be disappointed by this, but trust me when I tell you it’s for the best. This book was slippery, possibly because it’s been a while since I wrote a book in the Dragonfire world. I had to work out what would be the same as the Dragonfire novels, what would be different, as well as how the Pyr from the first series would be involved in this new series. I had to figure out Fae, and Valkyries. No matter how well I plan these things, it’s in the writing that I make huge discoveries.

I was sure I had it, then I went to a conference and had so many new ideas that I had to integrate them all. I LOVE how Kristofer and Bree’s book has come together, but I want to make sure it goes out in the world the way it should. I don’t want to rush my editor, my proofreader, my cover artist (for the print edition) or my ARC team. I want you to feel like it was worth the wait to return to the Pyr.

Just two weeks delay. Trust me. 🙂

Amazon Pre-Order for Dragon’s Heart

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeYesterday, Amazon extended the pre-order period available to indies from 90 days to 360. Woo HOO! I listed Dragon’s Heart right away, so you can order your copy at Amazon if that’s your portal of choice.

Dragon shifter Rhys follows the spark of the firestorm to his destined mate. He finds a selkie in distress, and is determined to defend her against Maeve’s plan, whether the firestorm is genuine or not. But how will he protect Lila when he can’t follow her into the ocean’s depths—yet Maeve and the Dark Fae can? Lila fears that Rhys is like all other men and just wants to control her—she’s vowed to never repeat that mistake again, but the firestorm’s power undermines everything she believes to be true. Changing DragonFate Publication Dates

Dragon's Kiss, book #2 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeI’ve moved the publication dates for the first three DragonFate novels.

In writing and publishing circles, there’s a lot of discussion about rapid release schedules, i.e. publishing linked books in rapid succession. While I think this is a good idea, it’s not my preferred way to work. I like to take a break from a given world and then come back to it with fresh eyes for the next book in the series. So, I’m going back to my tried and true, because I think I write better books that way.

Dragon’s Kiss will be published in November instead of October.

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeThis is the last of the halo from Bad Case of Loving You requiring a big revision. You’ll notice that the publication date on this one won’t change until the end of September, but trust me, it’s a November release.

Dragon’s Heart will be published in May.

Dragon’s Mate will be published in October 2020. This date will remain incorrect at Nook until November, as pre-orders can’t be scheduled more than a year in advance at that portal. (I just learned that. Who knew?)

Here be Dragons, the Dragonfire Companion and guide to the paranormal romance series by Deborah CookeOn the upside, some other things can slide into the months in between. For example, Here Be Dragons: The Dragonfire Companion will be published on December 31. The pre-order links are populating now.

I want to put this one up for pre-order at Amazon at the end of September – they only allow 90 day pre-orders – so I’ll do that, and then move the pub date for Dragon’s Kiss. When I move the publication date for Dragon’s Kiss, Amazon will remove my ability to set up pre-orders, so first things first.

Rearranging the Site

Fallen, an urban fantasy romance featuring a fallen angel hero and book one of the Prometheus Project by Deborah CookeWith the publication of Maeve’s Book of Beasts, it’s clear that a lot of my other paranormal heroes are living in the world of Dragonfire. As a result, I’ve created some new tabs and moved some pages onto this site.

You’ll find the Prometheus Project living under the new tab Angels (which are really all Fallen Angels), and Coven of Mercy is living under another new tab called Vampires.

The Prometheus Project is a complete four-book series set in a dystopian future featuring fallen angel heroes, but there’s a dead fallen angel at the beginning of Maeve’s Book of Beasts. I think it’s fair to assume that he has something in common with my future-set angels. That series begins with Fallen – I hope you like Montgomery as much as I do!

Coven of Mercy, a vampire romance and short story by Deborah CookeCoven of Mercy is a short story and vampire romance. Micah, the hero of that story, has a cameo appearance in Maeve’s Book of Beasts, and Sebastian – the vampire and continuing character in DragonFate – is a reluctant member of Micah’s coven.

The Dragonfire Novels, the Prometheus Project and the Dragons of Incendium are moving into Kindle Unlimited this month. Coven of Mercy and An Elegy for Melusine (which explains Mel and Raymond’s backstory) are already there.

Maeve’s Book of Beasts Today!

Wait. Is it August 2 already?

No, it’s not, but I made a mistake setting up my very first print pre-order, which means that the print edition of Maeve’s Book of Beasts is already available to buy online. So, since the book is done, it only made sense to let the ebook slide into the world as well. Here we go!

Maeve's Book of Beasts, book 1 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke

Careful what you wish for…
A mysterious book given to Sylvia by a handsome stranger plunges her into a hidden world, awakening her ability to see a paranormal realm and the Others who live in it. It also makes her a target for the Dark Fae who want the book back—and who will kill her to reclaim it. The stranger, Sebastian, becomes Sylvia’s reluctant defender—but his ability to influence her dreams is almost as dangerous as the fact that he’s a vampire. On the run with Sebastian, Sylvia learns about the plan of Maeve, Queen of the Dark Fae, to eliminate all other paranormal creatures. Possession of the book means that Sylvia is caught in the middle of a war between the Dark Fae and the Others, with a predator as her only ally. If she can decipher the book, will that help the Others to fight for their survival? Should she trust Sebastian? Or does the vampire who ignores all the rules have a secret plan of his own?
