Updated Bookmarks

As you probably know, I always have bookmarks to share with readers – they’re free for the asking. I’d run low this year and am stocking up. I have 3 PNR bookmarks (or will have them, when they arrive from the printer).

First is the DragonFate one, with the first four books in the series.

Next is the Dragonfire one, with all the books listed in order. I love this one, because it shows the complete series.

Finally, the Incendium one has been updated to show all the books to date on the back. This is the old bookmark, but I’ll post a picture when the new ones arrive.

New Dragon Shifters in Town

I’m making some changes to my websites this month, and the biggest change will be the dragon shifter princesses from space moving in, here on the Dragonfire Novels website. (I’ll miss the big Incendium banner on that site but maybe I can find the original and resize it for this one.)

I’ve moved all of the content from the Dragons of Incendium website, which will keep all of my paranormal romances together. The Incendium url now just points here.

You’ll find the content on its own (new) tab, Incendium. The world guides and other references are there, too.

The other part of this task is updating to WordPress’s block editor, which has some cool features (once you get used to it). The pages should look better, especially on your phone, with the new formatting, plus I get to use these fun little buy buttons, like the ones on the new page for Wyvern’s Mate. I’ve added some more buying options, too, especially for print books. You’ll also see the new option on that page for sharing an audiobook sample on the Wyvern’s Mate page. I’m sure there are a lot of other nifty features that I’ll discover as I migrate my pages to the new format. (The block editor actually reminds me of Vellum, the application I use to format my ebooks.)

Once all this is done, I’ll update the ebooks of the Dragons of Incendium, so that the links for the landing pages for the books refer to this site. (They’re due for an update anyway.)

I’ve also upgraded the plan on this website, which allows me to add Paypal buttons to the pages. This is a cool way for me to offer signed books directly to you. I’ll put the links on each book page, and the series bundles on the Store tab. I’ve already done this for the contemporary romances on my main website – you can see how it looks on the page for Just One Fake Date – and now for the Incendium books here.

That’s my plan for September – in addition to, yes, writing the rest of Dragon’s Mate. 🙂

Update on Dragon’s Heart

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeIf you pre-ordered Rhys and Lila’s book, you might have had a notification from your portal of choice that the publication date for Dragon’s Heart has been delayed. Events of this spring really trashed my ability to write and that’s put me behind schedule. I’m working well now, but still need to make up that delay.

I believe the book will be done in a week, so technically, it could be uploaded and published on the 22nd. I don’t want to bypass proofreading on it, though, as there are so many details to pull together. (There are a lot of dragon shifters on the stage!) So, I’ve added three weeks to the schedule, and booked two proofreaders. I’m aiming to have everything locked and loaded with time to spare. The paperback should be available a little sooner than the ebook, too.

I’ll dive right into Dragon’s Mate to get Hadrian’s story done on time, then we should be back on track.

Thanks for your patience. I think you’re going to love this book. I do!

Remember that there’s a Pinterest board for the DragonFate series, which is a work-in-progress. I’ve been adding images for Rhys and Lila.

Follow me on GoodReads

Last weekend, I attended the Romance Author Mastermind conference in Houston, hosted by Skye Warren. It was a terrific conference, and like all the best ones, it sent me home with a huge list of ideas.

Here be Dragons, the Dragonfire Companion and guide to the paranormal romance series by Deborah CookeOne of the things I realized that I’m under-utilizing – or maybe not using well at all! – is GoodReads. I think of it as a reader environment, where readers can talk about books with other readers. This is all good, but there are still things I can do there.

About once a year, I go into GR and update or correct the information about my books – the description, the ISBN’s and the series information, typically – but that has been the extend of my engagement in recent years. I’ve been lucky to have readers add my books for me there, but now I’m going to be more pro-active.

You can follow me at Goodreads. My Deborah Cooke profile is right here.

You can also add my upcoming books to your To Read Shelf. The cool thing is that when you do this, GR sends you a notification when the book is published.

Here’s Dragon’s Kiss, coming December 10.Dragon's Kiss, book two of the DragonFate novels, a series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke

Here’s the Dragonfire Companion, coming December 31.

Here’s Dragon’s Heart, coming May 26.

Here’s Dragon’s Mate, coming October 27.

I see that I’m due to sort out some series details again – this happens because Amazon doesn’t allow decimals in their numbering, or prequels numbered 0. The other portals and GR do, but now Amazon feeds metadata to GR. I’ll dig in over the holidays.

Amazon Pre-Order for Dragon’s Heart

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeYesterday, Amazon extended the pre-order period available to indies from 90 days to 360. Woo HOO! I listed Dragon’s Heart right away, so you can order your copy at Amazon if that’s your portal of choice.

Dragon shifter Rhys follows the spark of the firestorm to his destined mate. He finds a selkie in distress, and is determined to defend her against Maeve’s plan, whether the firestorm is genuine or not. But how will he protect Lila when he can’t follow her into the ocean’s depths—yet Maeve and the Dark Fae can? Lila fears that Rhys is like all other men and just wants to control her—she’s vowed to never repeat that mistake again, but the firestorm’s power undermines everything she believes to be true. Could Rhys be Maeve’s pawn? How will Lila choose between her own kind and the dragon shifter who imperils himself to see her safe, even when out of his element?

Maeve’s Book of Beasts Today!

Wait. Is it August 2 already?

No, it’s not, but I made a mistake setting up my very first print pre-order, which means that the print edition of Maeve’s Book of Beasts is already available to buy online. So, since the book is done, it only made sense to let the ebook slide into the world as well. Here we go!

Maeve's Book of Beasts, book 1 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke

Careful what you wish for…
A mysterious book given to Sylvia by a handsome stranger plunges her into a hidden world, awakening her ability to see a paranormal realm and the Others who live in it. It also makes her a target for the Dark Fae who want the book back—and who will kill her to reclaim it. The stranger, Sebastian, becomes Sylvia’s reluctant defender—but his ability to influence her dreams is almost as dangerous as the fact that he’s a vampire. On the run with Sebastian, Sylvia learns about the plan of Maeve, Queen of the Dark Fae, to eliminate all other paranormal creatures. Possession of the book means that Sylvia is caught in the middle of a war between the Dark Fae and the Others, with a predator as her only ally. If she can decipher the book, will that help the Others to fight for their survival? Should she trust Sebastian? Or does the vampire who ignores all the rules have a secret plan of his own?

DragonFate Covers

Maeve's Book of Beasts, book 1 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeThe DragonFate series features the Pyr‘s battle against Maeve, the dark Fae queen who wants to exterminate all species she considers unnatural (because they are half human). We met Maeve in Firestorm Forever and glimpsed her souvenir gallery of species she had already eliminated. In this series, she targets the Pyr and other species in the world – and the Pyr come to the defense of shifters like themselves, led by the spark of the firestorm. What I like about this series is that there are lots of paranormal creatures in the cast, as well as some humans and an opinionated ghost.

Dragon's Kiss, book #2 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeWhat I like about this series is that the heroines will also have special powers of their own, and this is going to complicate matters with their dragon shifter heroes and destined mates. We’ll see an over-arching romance between Melusine and Theo, one that is complicated both by her special powers and the persistent ghost of her dead husband, Raymond. There will also be another over-arching romance between a very human librarian and a hot vampire who is part of the team battling Maeve. We’ll also explore the origins of the Pyr. This is a big canvas and I’m excited about all my plans and possibilities.

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeMy original scheme was for DragonFate to be four books. The working titles were Hot-Blooded, Spell-Bound, Star-Crossed and Dusted, but I’ve since learned it would be better for discoverability if the titles to include the word Dragon. Donna Grant has also published a dragon shifter book called Hot-Blooded (as well as one called Dragonfire) in the interim, so it’s better to avoid confusion.

I’ve gone with Dragon’s Kiss, Dragon’s Heart and Dragon’s Mate for the first three books. The pre-quel is called Maeve’s Book of Beasts and will launch in August. Dragon’s Kiss will be published in October, followed by Dragon’s Heart in January and Dragon’s Mate in April.

Dragon's Mate, book 4 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeOne of the things I really like about these covers is that the artist used the colours of each Pyr in his dragon form on his book cover. Kristofer (Dragon’s Kiss) is peridot and silver in his dragon form, and has blond hair and blue eyes in his human form. Rhys (Dragon’s Heart) is garnet and silver in his dragon form, and has dark hair and dark eyes in his human form. Hadrian (Dragon’s Mate) is emerald and silver in his dragon form, and has auburn hair and green eyes in his human form.

Another thing I noticed later which I think is funny – the model chosen by the artist for Rhys on Dragon’s Heart is the same model I chose for Some Like It Hot in the Flatiron Five series. He looks a bit different with his shirt off and a dragon tattoo. I think it’s also possible that the model on Dragon’s Mate is the same one used on Some Guys Have All the Luck, but am not positive about that. This is why so many covers show the models without their faces, but I like to see their eyes.

There is a Pinterest board for the DragonFate series, which is a work-in-progress.

Pre-order links are populating now and will be added to the landing pages for each book as they go live.

Giveaway Winner

Kiss of Fire, book #1 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeIn my most recent Dragons & Angels newsletter, there was a giveaway. If you didn’t open your newsletter or you don’t subscribe, you missed a chance to win a signed hardcover copy of Kiss of Fire.

To enter the giveaway, subscribers told me whether they preferred dragon shifter paranormal romances with:

• dragon shifter heroes and heroines with no special powers

• dragon shifter heroes and dragon shifter heroines

• dragon shifter heroes and heroines with powers of their own

• dragon shifter heroines and heroes with powers of their own

Wyvern's Mate, book one of the Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeThere were a lot of replies and different explanations as to why anyone favored a specific one. The results were pretty well scattered, with the possibility of two dragon shifters together being the least popular. One reader pointed out that they would be too much the same then, which sounds quite reasonable.

Of course, I’ve written a few of these structures. The Dragonfire Novels feature dragon shifter heroes and heroines with no special powers. The Dragons of Incendium series features dragon shifter heroines and heroes, some of whom have special powers and some of whom don’t. And DragonFate will feature dragon shifter heroes and heroines with special powers of their own. More about that in next week’s newsletter.

The winner of the signed book was Karin, and it’s on its way to her now.

If you haven’t subscribed to the Dragons & Angels newsletter, you might want to do so before next week’s newsletter. It will include cover reveals for DragonFate.

About DragonFate

Here be Dragons, the Dragonfire Companion and guide to the paranormal romance series by Deborah CookeI’ve been sketching out my plans for DragonFate and thought you might like an update. I’ve had this series mapped out in my imagination for years, and it’s fun to be finally working on it. I’m making notes and sketches, and have begun to write some of the early schemes. Once the groundwork is done, the rest of the writing should proceed quite quickly. A big part of what’s been going on this year has been getting all of Dragonfire back into my head. I’ve been going through the books in that series and making notes, then filling out the records for Here Be Dragons: The Dragonfire Companion. I’ve also been compiling family trees for the Pyr.

As this series has taken shape, I’ve realized that it’s going to be a shorter and more tightly linked series of books. Each book will include a firestorm and a primary romance, but there will be more overlapping threads and ongoing stories that continue from book to book. Because of that, I know you’ll want to be able to go from one to the next fairly quickly. So, I’ve put off the publication date for book one, in order to have most or all of the books written before publication begins. I’m hoping to launch in the summer of 2019, and might enroll the series in Kindle Unlimited for 90 days before going into wide distribution. In the meantime, I’m going to share some of those early scenes with you.

Coastal Magic Reader Conference 2019On the 23rd, you’ll be able to read the first of those early scenes. It’s appearing as a guest post and short story on another blog (promoting the authors attending Coastal Magic 2019 – which includes me!) so stop back here for a link on the 23rd.

I’ll share a second scene with you in November, right here on the blog.
